MEET OUR STAFF

CAMP STAFF

Our staff includes teachers, graduate students, and college students, many of whom are pursuing degrees in education, as well as high school students. All staff are carefully screened through a process of interviews, reference verifications, and background checks. All staff attend pre-camp training and meetings. A registered nurse is on duty during regular camp hours. The nurse oversees medication required by campers and contacts parents if a child becomes ill during the camp day.

Joe Bernier, Summer Programs Director

Joe Bernier comes to Camp Christopher and EAGLES/EDGE after a decade of experience in summer camp programs and independent schools from Texas to Maine and Massachusetts. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, he shares our enthusiasm for creating the best possible summer experience for campers, parents, and staff.

Jeff Fiore ’08, Aquatics Coordinator

Jeff Fiore joined the Camp Christopher team in 2019 after six years as aquatics director at Charles River Aquatics in Boston. “I’ve really enjoy working with kids in the pool. I’m all about making it fun, and they always make me laugh during the process, too,” says the Peabody native. At St. John’s, he set new school records in the 200 and 400 free relay before going on to the University of Tampa, where he was a NCAA Qualifier in the 200 free and 200 IM. When he’s not in the pool or at the beach, you can find him taking his dog, Rocko, on fun adventures.

Diane Hastings, Music Specialist

You could say that music makes Diane Hasting’s heart sing. When she’s not teaching strings and chorus in the Middle School at St. John’s, she performs professionally on the violin with local orchestras, her band, Vintage String, and with her husband’s original band, the Mike Hastings Band. She’s excited to join the staff at Camp Christopher because of the energy and creativity young people have for music. “Making music with kids is always fun because of their spirit,” says the native of Findlay, Ohio. She earned her B.A. at Bowling Green State University, and her master’s in music education at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Heidi Rubin, Camp Nurse

Stop by camp nurse Heidi Rubin’s office and you’re likely to see a big vase of colorful flowers, fresh from her garden at home. Heidi joined the Camp Christopher and EAGLES/EDGE family eight years ago and loves being a resource for campers. “I am constantly impressed by the way campers bounce back, and then head out to have more fun,” she says. Heidi holds a B.S.N. from Simmons College and an M.S.N. from the University of Pennsylvania. A big fan of running in the great outdoors, she trains for at least one half-marathon a year. When she’s not logging miles, she likes to knit, crochet, and bake her signature chocolate chip cookies.

Kaitlin Dierze, Arts Specialist

The way Kaitlin Dierze sees it, she learns as much from her campers as she teaches them as the arts specialist at Camp Christopher. ”I have the privilege of interacting with and getting to know each and every child who comes to camp. And I get to share what I love with them,” says the graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art & Design. Beyond school and camp, you can find this Topsfield resident making art, cooking, heading to the beach, exploring and traveling, and hanging out with friends— and Ben, her Australian Shepherd!

Eleni Goddu, Senior Counselor

There’s a lot Eleni Goddu loves about being a senior counselor at Camp Christopher, but it’s the opportunity to be a positive role model that truly inspires her. “I love being a good influence for campers, and I also love their excitement and energy. Working with campers make every day interesting and new,” says the Georgetown resident. When she’s not at camp or studying marketing at Saint Anselm College, she’s spending time with friends and family, playing with her dog, writing, playing volleyball, skiing, volunteering, cooking, or going to the beach.

Michaela Quimby, Senior Counselor

Coming back for her sixth summer at Camp Christopher, Michaela Quimby is a special education teacher during the school year for children in kindergarten through grade 5. “As a special educator, I know how challenging school can be for children. Camp is a place for all kids to feel included, to grow socially, and to find new interests and strengths during the summer,” she says. A Middleton native, she majored in psychology at Westfield State University and holds a master’s in special education from Fitchburg State University. “My goal is to help make every child’s camp experience fun and memorable!”
